About

My name is Kara Derma, and I'm a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans from painting, graphic and theatre design, photography and illustration.
In my work, I explore the relationship between memory, environment, and storytelling — blending narrative-driven imagery with bold colour, influenced by nostalgic sentiment and a strong sense of place. I have. been painting landscapes since my youth, and continues to be apart of my practice with the never ending source of inspiration that is the natural world.

I studied Fine Arts at North Island College, Dramatic Studies at the University of Alberta, and completed my diploma in Recreation & Leisure Services at Conestoga College. I currently reside and work in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, the unceded traditional territory of the K'omox First Nation, where I continue to create, make music, swim, and spend time in nature with my dog, Beef Cake!
